Abstract
  • This book reviews the latest research in the area of podiatric surgery services. It also reports the findings from a study of podiatric surgery services in six English health districts. The two parts of the research complement each other. The first, which contains the results of a comprehensive literature review, illustrates how little good-quality research has been carried out to enable purchasers and providers to assess the relative merits of these services. The second, based on interviews with GPs, managers, providers and clinicians, illustrates that both purchasers and providers support greater collaboration between orthopaedic surgeons and specialists in podiatric surgery. Both groups of clinicians want to provide a good service for GPs and patients and where they work together they do so effectively. The report makes recommendations for the improvement of the evidence base in podiatric surgery and for greater collaboration between purchasers and service providers.
