Abstract
  • This is the fourth in a series of reports published for the London Commission by the King's Fund. It focuses attention on the question of how transforming health care in London to meet the needs of the next century can be addressed. Reviewing the experience of the last five years, it argues that transformation in the overall pattern of health and related services and the many different types of change this requires are unlikely to be secured through either central planning or quasi-market mechanisms. Rather, government and health agencies need to work together to establish fresh approaches to development which combine political leadership on tough issues with much greater emphasis on local interagency collaboration and participation of the full range of relevant stakeholders.
